The Dos and Don'ts of Your Botox Appointment

Writer: Coco Med SpaCoco Med Spa

So it’s time for your Botox appointment? Today we’ll discuss some of the most important things to do, or not do, both prior to and post appointment. Whether you’re getting Botox or another neurotoxin such as Jeuveau, Dysport, or Xeomin, the information still applies! Check out the linked blog to learn more about the differences between the neurotoxins.

What to do:

  • Book a consultation

  • Wait 3 months between treatments

  • Practice other preventative care

  • Plan your appointment around your schedule

  • Keep special events and important dates in mind

  • Schedule your follow-up appointments

Most importantly, arrive at your appointment with realistic expectations. Ask questions, listen to your injector, and be sure you understand the process and the expected outcome so that you are happy with your results. Botox and other neurotoxins do fix a variety of concerns but the only improvements they can make are those connected to dynamic muscle contractions. Botox will not fix concerns like skin laxity, jowls, or undereye sinking. It is important to communicate all of your concerns during your consultation so that your provider can create a full-face approach that may include other treatments.

What not to do:

  • No wearing makeup to your appointment

  • No makeup for the remainder of the day post appointment

  • No ibuprofen, alcohol, fish oils, or other blood-thinning products that can worsen bruising

  • No working out for at least 12 hours before or after your appointment

  • No massages or manipulation of the injected areas

  • No Facials for at least 2 weeks

  • No arriving sick to your appointment

In order to achieve desired results, it is imperative to follow the pre and post-care instructions from your provider. Although a Botox appointment may feel simple and easy, it is still a procedure and precautions should be taken seriously. With appropriate planning, the short-term restrictions should be easy to accommodate and you can jump right back into your routine afterward with results you love.
