M-Shaped Lips: A Tricky Transformation

What are M-Shaped lips?

M-shaped lips refer to the Cupid’s Bow area of the lip, where some people have very defined peaks on either side, resembling the look of an M. People without this lip shape tend to have a softer curve with less definition between the peaks at the top of the lip. 

What makes M-Shaped lip injections tricky?

Using injectables on M-Shaped lips is very possible; it just takes a little bit more work and usually a slower approach to get the desired results without compromising the natural lip shape. Due to the shape of the top lip, there is less space and fewer straight lines to inject into. Without the right placement, overfilling the lip in the center can overaccentuate the top of the lip, resulting in a beak-like appearance. The solution? A candid conversation between the client and provider about the likely results and timeline for treating this lip shape. Best results are usually achieved with small applications over time to prevent migration, or weird projection in the center of the lip. 

How to get your best M-shaped lip

• Softening the depth of the dip in the M

• Protecting the natural cupid’s bow

• Avoiding too much projection or a beak-like appearance

While it can be helpful to draw inspiration from photos online, it’s important to pull examples of people with your lip shape and understand that recreating someone else’s lip exactly isn’t realistic.
