If you’re reading this, it’s likely that you’ve heard of Botox. This word has become a sort of “all encompassing” term for the entire category of injectable Neurotoxins available. However, there are several ‘tox options besides Botox. While most think of injectable neurotoxins according to their role in preventing or freezing lines and wrinkles, there are also benefits like reduced oil production and treatment for issues like migraines, sweating, and more.
What Neurotoxins are available?
Botox may have one of the more popular names however, brands like Xeomin, Dysport, and Jeuveau are growing in popularity and are very good options for injectable neurotoxins. We use all 4 of these brands at Coco Med Spa.
How do Neurotoxins work?
All neurotoxins work by creating a barrier between nerves and the muscles they normally signal to. When the signal is effectively blocked, it stops or reduces muscle movement, effectively preventing an increase in skin creasing that could cause or deepen lines in the skin.
What are the key differences?
Botox, in addition to being one of the most popular neurotoxins, also has one of the most approved uses. It can be used for cosmetic purposes but it is also known for its results in preventing migraines, combatting TMJ, and preventing excessive underarm sweating.
Xeomin consists of Botulinum Toxin A, like Botox, but it doesn’t release the protein additives that Botox does. For that reason, Xeomin prevents antibody resistance and can be a good option for those who are not seeing results with Botox any longer due to antibody buildup.
Dysport is known for being less expensive per unit but generally requires more units than Botox in the same area would require. However, it does tend to have a faster onset and may be beneficial in the event of a need for quicker results. In some cases, it may last a bit longer than Botox and Xeomin.
Finally, Jeuveau is the newest FDA approved neurotoxin out of the four available. It behaves similarly to Botox and Dysport.
