Did You Know Botox Could Treat That?

Updated: Mar 26

As a medical spa in St. Pete, it is understandably common that we perform Botox and other ‘tox treatments on guests with a cosmetic interest in the service. While it’s true that Botox can be great for prevention and anti-aging, there are also several other reasons someone may inquire about a ‘tox treatment.

For the purposes of this blog, we’d like to start by saying that non-cosmetic Botox services, like all of our ‘tox services, are elective services with us and not covered by insurance. For many of the concerns we’ll discuss today, we should not be the first line of care. However, we are happy to provide neurotoxin injectables in addition to your consultation with a primary care provider or another physician.

Now we’ll cover several different uses for Botox beyond the typical cosmetic clients!

Trapezius Muscles

This commonly used term might be fun, but having overactive trapezius muscles is not. This sort of application sometimes trends as “Barbie Botox” with the intent of reducing the size of overactive traps for a slimmer appearance. At Coco Med Spa, we do not offer Botox in this location simply for aesthetic reasons. However, if someone is regularly experiencing pain as a result of overactive trapezius muscles, neurotoxin treatments for relief might be considered.

Swimmers

In some cases, former swimmers might experience pain from overdeveloped muscles that continue to be overused. Treating with neurotoxins can provide relief from muscle pain in this situation.

TMJ Pain

One of our more common non-cosmetic treatments is Masseter Botox for TMJ. Although regular ‘tox treatments for TMJ and clenching CAN sometimes cause facial slimming, that is an added result of treating the pain and discomfort that those who suffer from TMJ experience.

Bell’s Palsy

While it’s common for Bell’s Palsy to self-correct after a short period of time, in some cases, it might not. If you’re dealing with prolonged symptoms of Bell’s Palsy you should first be sure to consult with a neurologist. Once you are cleared, if symptoms persist for longer than 6 months you might be a good candidate for treating any remaining facial imbalances with Botox or another neurotoxin.

Eye Concerns

Occasionally, we might treat individuals with an eye twitch or a droopy eyelid also known as “ptosis.” Botox can improve these symptoms making the eyes, and you, more comfortable. It’s important to note that you should first start with your eye doctor before seeking treatments with us at Coco Med Spa.

Migraines

While it’s important to start with your doctor if you’re experiencing migraines, in some cases, ‘tox is an acceptable treatment method for certain causes of migraines.

Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is another common non-cosmetic treatment we offer for individuals who experience excessive sweating. While sweating from hyperhidrosis can occur all over the body, it commonly occurs in the underarm area which is a typical treatment area.

Scar Reduction and Revision

You might not have heard about this use but Botox has shown promising results in improving the appearance of scarring. Although qualifying for this sort of treatment depends on factors such as location and the condition of the scar, feel free to ask us about this if you have any questions or concerns about scarring that you currently have.

At Coco Med Spa we’re proud to offer a variety of Botox options in St. Pete for more reasons than just cosmetic. If you’re curious about whether or not you might be a candidate for Botox with us in St. Pete, feel free to book an appointment for a consultation or give us a call with questions!
