Recovery and Results: What to Expect From Coco Med Spa’s Popular Treatments

Updated: Mar 6, 2023

One of the biggest questions we receive and see being asked on social media is in regard to the results and recovery time of popular treatments. Today, we’ll be discussing some of our most popular injectable treatments here at Coco Med Spa in St. Pete and covering what you can expect after getting them to help you plan your treatments more effectively. Without further ado, let’s dive right in.

Neurotoxins

Neurotoxins are injectable treatments that work to prevent or inhibit wrinkle formation by temporarily paralyzing facial muscles to reduce the movement that forms lines and wrinkles. Our neurotoxin options include Botox, Jeuveau, Dysport, and Xeomin.

This service is quick and easy with minimal discomfort and little to no social downtime. Although bruising is possible, there is a low risk of bruising or swelling from a neurotoxin injection. It can take up to 10 days for the full effect to take place so it’s best to schedule about a week and a half to two weeks in advance of a special occasion or important event if desired.

Lip Filler

Lip injections are an incredibly popular treatment worldwide and there is plenty of information and misinformation available so it’s important to get details about receiving lip filler from a medical professional.

During a lip filler service, you will receive a numbing treatment prior to the injection. This numbing agent typically lasts for just a couple of hours. Once this wears off, Tylenol is recommended for any mild discomfort. The visible results of lip injections are immediate, however, it is important to remember that you will experience swelling for at least 3-5 days and for as long as 2 weeks post-procedure. Once the residual swelling subsides, you’ll be able to see the full results of your procedure. This procedure does have a relatively high risk for bruising so it is important to factor in that possibility when scheduling your appointment. At Coco Med Spa we always inject lip filler over the course of two sessions spaced 2-3 weeks apart. This means that you can expect to see the final results about four weeks after your second session has been completed. To reduce bruising and swelling, avoid alcohol or other blood-thinning medications if possible. Icing your lips and taking OTC allergy or antihistamines can also be helpful for reducing swelling.

PRF Injections

PRF Injections are typically used to treat the undereye area, helping to firm and tone. Due to the sensitive area, this treatment can cause quite a bit of swelling. For this procedure, there is not much that can be done to reduce swelling without affecting the result of the procedure so the best course of action is to plan recovery time into your schedule.

A full treatment generally requires 2-3 sessions which are spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Although swelling generally only lasts about 3-5 days, the final results of your treatment will be visible about 6-12 weeks from your last session.

Sculptra

Sculptra is an injectable collagen that can be used in many places on the face and the body. It works differently from other injectable fillers because it stimulates the body’s production of its own collagen. Directly after treatment, patients will see a “filled” look in the injected area and may like how it looks. Still, it is important to remember that this temporary swelling is just a side effect of the fluid that is involved in the Sculptra injection and it will subside within 48 hours. Additionally, bruising should be factored into your scheduling as it can last for about a week with Sculptra.

Since the body needs time to create new collagen, it is generally recommended to schedule several treatments about a month apart with an understanding that visible results may not show until the second treatment at the earliest, and final results can take up to 6 months.

Post-treatment, it is important that patients massage the treated areas as directed by their provider following the injection. Our standard recommendation is to massage for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. This is to prevent nodule formation.

Knowing what to expect from recovery, projected downtime, and length of time until full results is an important part of making an informed decision regarding any medical aesthetic procedure that you receive. It is important to ask your provider questions, do your research, and follow their instructions for recommended care once you have had the procedure to ensure optimal results.
