Summertime is full of fun, adventures, and usually extra sun exposure too. For that reason, there are several skincare treatments that people tend to avoid during the “outdoor months” in order to protect their skin from sun damage and preserve their treatment results. However, there are several treatments that you can stick with all year round, so that you don’t have to stop moving towards your skincare goals until you aren’t in the sun as frequently. This can be especially useful in places like St. Pete, where optimal outdoor weather lasts much longer than just the summer season. If you keep reading, you’ll learn about some of our favorite treatments that are sun safe and effective to continue all year long.
PRX Derm Perfection
One of our newest treatments, PRX Derm Perfection, is sure to be a summer-time favorite as it offers results that rival chemical peel treatments without any risk of photosensitivity. This topical biostimulator doesn’t even require any downtime, and it doesn’t cause any redness, peeling, or discomfort. This means that you can get the radiant, rejuvenated skin you crave and still confidently go about your normal outdoor activities post-treatment with no worries, just a diligent sunscreen application as always.
Facials
Classic facials remain popular during the hotter months, especially since they can be customized for summer concerns like dehydration and excess oil production. Facials are often passed over for more intense treatments, but the reality is that these treatments don’t just enhance your complexion; they support long-term skin health. Facials should be a regular part of your skin care protection and prevention routine as they often help to maintain results from, or prevent the need for, certain other more active services.
Microneedling
Both traditional microneedling with SkinPen and RF Microneedling with Morpheus8 are both treatments that are safe to get in the summertime. While these are more abrasive treatments that cause micro injuries to the skin, they do not necessarily increase photo sensitivity and do not require you to specifically avoid the sun before or after treatment. It is important, however, to stay regular with sunscreen application during and after the healing process.
Fillers
Dermal fillers that stimulate collagen growth, like Sculptra and Radiesse, are great treatment options all year round and don’t run the risk of making your skin more photo-sensitive. Although Radiesse offers instant volume and Sculptra builds up over time, both of these fillers make your skin firmer and stronger over time as new collagen is formed. Other fillers like Evolysse, Restylane, and Revanesse Versa are also great year-round. However, these fillers add immediate volume but do not stimulate new collagen growth. They require more frequent maintenance. Each filler is best suited to certain areas and outcomes, so it’s always best to discuss with your injector which fillers are right for the results you’re looking for and areas you want to have treated.
PRP and PRF
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) can also be administered at any time of year. Both of these services draw blood and extract your own plasma and fibrin to be used as a rejuvenating injectable treatment in a number of places on the face and even in the scalp for hair growth. PRF can also be added to a microneedling treatment to boost results and speed up healing. PRP and PRF can be injected into places that traditional fillers can’t, offering rejuvenation that’s safe and effective since the product comes from your own body. Neither of these treatments has any photosensitivity warnings!
Exosomes
Although this isn’t a stand-alone treatment, exosomes are applied after a lot of our more active or invasive treatments, and we highly recommend regular use of them at home as well. This powerful topical treatment delivers messengers directly to the skin that instruct it to restore and repair itself. This not only encourages faster healing after services, but it also boosts anti-aging and rejuvenating results. Exosomes like ( plated )™ can be used alone or with any of the treatments you receive at Coco Med Spa.
Treatments to Avoid with High Sun Exposure
While we’re on the topic of what works, you may be wondering what types of treatments we recommend avoiding during times of excess sun exposure. Typically, most chemical peels, laser skin treatments, and laser hair removal should all be saved for times when you’re mostly indoors. Although we frequently refer to these as “winter treatments,” the reality is that they should just be scheduled for whenever you spend the most time indoors away from the sun. If you’re a person who is intolerant of summer heat and tends to remain indoors during the hot months, then these treatments may be okay for you during the summer. No matter when you decide to get any treatment, we’ll always ask about your lifestyle and give you the proper before and after care instructions for you to get the most benefit from your treatment.
Coco Med Spa is proud to prioritize the safety and well-being of your skin all year round, and we are happy to help come up with a treatment plan that matches your lifestyle and the results that you’re looking for. No matter what service you get, or what time of year, one thing you’ll repeatedly hear from us is to use your sunscreen every day. It’s even more important after services like laser or chemical peels. Ready to build your sun safe skincare treatment plan? Contact us today!
