Our Global Approach to Full Facial Balancing

Updated: Jul 2, 2021

With the rise in popularity of demonstrating med spa services on social media, more people than ever have become familiar with non surgical adjustments to the face. However, these are often shown as one off services and don’t highlight the importance of a more global approach to the face versus just one feature.

Cue “Full Facial Balancing.” This method takes all your features into account when making adjustments and allows your injector to maintain the integrity of the features that make you, YOU while enhancing for symmetry and balance from top to bottom.

Recently, we sat down with our injector Amy Nguyen, APRN, to ask some questions about her approach to full facial balancing. Amy is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who specializes in aesthetic medicine. She is also an Evolus Trainer and Specialist and was named one of the Top 100 Best Injectors in the US in 2020! She is an excellent craftsman in the field of medical aesthetics with a loyal client base and possesses a wealth of knowledge. Amy shared with us that, “Full facial balancing is always my preferred method of treating my patients.” We love Amy’s client focused approach to full facial balancing here in St. Pete and we are excited to share our conversation with you!

Q: What is full facial balancing?

A: Full facial balancing is when injectables - such as neurotoxins, fillers and threads - are used together for global harmonization of the entire face. Rather than focusing on one area of the face or one particular line/wrinkle, the whole face is addressed together. When taking a global approach to treating the face, whether the goal is anti-aging or facial balancing, the results are subtle and natural.

Q: How long does facial balancing last?

A: This is a hard question to answer. Full facial balancing is a different treatment from person to person. Depending on what the customized treatment plan entails, longevity can vary. I usually recommend my patients follow up with me every 3-6 months for reassessment, or when they are due for the next neurotoxin treatment. Upon reassessment, we may add more filler, or we may do nothing besides review the treatment plan and schedule the next visit.

Q: Could you walk us through some of the questions you ask during a consultation?

A: It's important that I know the client's history with aesthetic treatments - I'll ask what they've previously had done and what products they are currently using. I'll ask if they have had any issues with previous treatments. I like to see my patients animate during the consultation - I'll ask them to frown, smile, raise their eyebrows, pout. I like to ask what features on their face they like, and what is currently bothering them.

Q: What services are used during full facial balancing?

A: Filler injections (multiple syringes), neurotoxin, and sometimes threads.

Q: Is full facial balancing considered non invasive?

A: I would use the term non-surgical instead of non-invasive, as these are injection treatments.

Q: Is there ever a time when full facial balancing would not be recommended?

A: If the patient currently has filler that is misplaced or overdone, we would need to discuss dissolving prior to facial balancing. If a patient has a lot of skin laxity, they might be a surgical candidate instead. During the consultation, we'll address these things and discuss potential alternative treatment options.

As you can see, Amy’s knowledge and commitment to excellence is testimony enough in itself to the beautiful results that she is able to achieve for her clients. She is wonderful at managing clients' expectations of transformation while maintaining the integrity of their features and ensuring they look like the very best version of themselves. When asked about how she does this Amy shared, “During the consultation, if what I advise doesn't align with the client's expectations, I will review why and how I determined the course of action. My goal is always to provide the most natural-looking results.”
