Best Practices for Botox: Do’s & Don’ts

Have you got a Botox appointment coming up? Congratulations! This treatment is a great way to care for your skin, prevent visible signs of aging, and give your confidence a little boost too. To ensure you get the best results and the most out of your treatment, we’ve compiled a few do’s and don’ts to make note of before and after your treatment. Whether you’re getting Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, or any other neurotoxin, these tips and recommendations apply!

Why Botox?

Botox and similar neurotoxins are versatile treatments used for both cosmetic and medical purposes. They can be used to soften or prevent lines and wrinkles, ease muscle tension due to things like TMJ or migraines, or improve aesthetics and comfort in cases of excessive sweating. Your provider will work with you directly on which neurotoxin and what quantity is best for your specific needs.

Things to Avoid

Prior to your appointment, it's important to avoid blood thinning medications and alcohol. Additionally, it is advised to avoid fish oil before your appointment as it can increase the likelihood of bruising.

After your appointment, be sure to avoid physical activity for at least 24-48 hours.

Things to Prioritize

After your appointment be sure to stay out of the sun and be diligent with your SPF. This will help your ‘tox out and protect your skin as well. Some clinical studies show that taking a high-quality zinc supplement may help your Botox last longer.

Follow Up

Finally, plan on making a 2-week follow-up appointment to confirm your results with your injector. This is key to ensure the results align with your plan and to see if any adjustments need to be made then or in the future.
