Whether you’re expecting, nursing, or planning for the future, it’s probably no surprise to learn that there are certain products and services that should be avoided during pregnancy and nursing. As a medical spa, we offer a variety of skincare products and skincare services that are more active than services you might receive in a standard salon or spa environment. Due to this, we make it our priority to provide education and transparent information on pregnancy safe skincare products and pregnancy safe skincare services to keep expectant mothers and their babies pampered AND safe. While we discuss needs and concerns individually with our patients at each visit, we’ve compiled a list of pregnancy do’s and don’ts regarding products and services to help inform and allow you to plan your next trip to Coco Med Spa with confidence.

As a general rule, skincare ingredients like salicylic acid, AHA’s, retinol, rosemary, and chemical sunscreens should be avoided during pregnancy. **This list is not exhaustive. Please check with your OBGYN Provider if you have any questions about new products that you’d like to add to your regimen.
Services
When it comes to spa services during pregnancy, some services are avoided due to known contraindications, and others are not performed due to a lack of hard evidence regarding the effects of those treatments on a pregnancy. While pregnant, expect to avoid services like:
- Injectable neurotoxins and fillers
- Laser and IPL treatments
- Microneedling
- Certain types of peels
Luckily, glycolic and lactic acid peels have been deemed to be pregnancy safe. Facials are also a great way to treat your skin and yourself during pregnancy. If you’re a dedicated waxing client, keep your appointments! Waxing is generally accepted as pregnancy safe as well.
Since each pregnancy and pregnant person is totally different and unique, it is always important to seek and defer to the advice of your OBGYN Provider. At Coco Med Spa the safety of our clients is paramount and we ask about pregnancy prior to any contraindicated services. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us for more information or confirmation of an approved service prior to booking.
