When considering filler, you may be surprised to find that there are different types that create different results. Today, we’ll discuss the differences between Sculptra and HA (Hyaluronic Acid) fillers to help you learn more about your options and get a better idea of which one might be right for you!
What is Sculptra
Sculptra is an injectable filler made up of an ingredient called poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Unlike HA fillers, Sculptra is essentially an injectable collagen. Sculptra is used in areas of the face and body where the underlying structure of the skin needs reinforcement. This is because Sculptra triggers a collagen-building response in the areas of treatment, causing them to create new collagen under the skin. In short, Sculptra is not an instant gratification treatment, but rather a long-term building treatment. With Sculptra, you don’t see immediate volume changes, but rather, long-term rejuvenation as your skin begins to rebuild its collagen structure, which improves laxity, sagging, and volume loss under the skin. Although it can take a few treatments to get the best results, maintenance after the initial results is much lower, and the results are incredibly natural.
What is HA filler?
HA fillers go by many brand names, but they all have the same main ingredient, Hyaluronic Acid. The results of hyaluronic acid fillers are typically what you see in many before-and-after results on social media or when reviewing provider portfolios. HA fillers give immediate results by adding volume at the time of injection. Hyaluronic acid is something that your body naturally produces, and therefore, over time, your body metabolises hyaluronic acid fillers. While this may happen at a different rate of speed for everyone, HA fillers do require regular touch-ups to maintain the desired level of volume in the treatment area.

Which filler is right for you?
When considering HA fillers or Sculptra at our St. Pete office, the first question is: what area are we treating? For areas like lip filler, Sculptra is not an option. However, for a service like cheek filler our providers will look at factors like age and face structure. With younger clients looking for more projection, we tend to go with HA fillers. For clients past the late 30s, anti-aging becomes a priority, and we may look at Sculptra to help rebuild and maintain collagen loss. Ultimately, we consult with each person individually and make recommendations based on their personal features, lifestyle, and desired outcome.
