Getting the Scoop on Sculptra

Are you looking to rebuild collagen and add structural volume over time with long-term results? While most consider injectables temporary, it's important to remember that not all injectable treatments are created equal. Meet Sculptra! This injectable filler works differently than other fillers as it is not hyaluronic acid-based. Keep reading to learn what it is, who it’s for, and why it might be a good option for you.

How is Sculptra different from other fillers?

Sculptra is an injectable made of poly-L-lactic acid, also known as PLLA. Different from more common HA fillers, PLLA is considered to be a semi-permanent treatment option. This is because it stimulates the production of new collagen, helping to generate long-term repair in its place. Sculptra is not an “instant gratification” product as it does not add volume right away. Instead, it builds volume over time as collagen regeneration occurs. While it does require some maintenance for the best results, the effects last much longer and look incredibly natural as your body produces its own collagen in response to the injection.

How is Sculptra used?

Sculptra was first designed for use in HIV patients as a way to restore volume loss in the face from significant weight loss. Its effectiveness in jumpstarting new collagen production has made it very popular for cosmetic purposes as well. Sculptra can be used in various ways in areas that have lost volume due to things like aging or significant weight loss. However, it’s important to understand that Sculptra is best used to treat skin laxity that has occurred as a result of volume loss rather than treating volume loss itself the way many dermal fillers are used.

Where do we use Sculptra at Coco Med Spa?

Although each service is tailored to the needs of the individual, there are a few preferred methods that we see awesome results with when using Sculptra at Coco Med Spa in St. Pete. The first is a favorite of Jessica’s, one of our injectors. Pan facial application means “whole face.” Using Sculptra in strategic areas across the face is a great method for clients over 40, those who have experienced significant weight loss, or an individual who is extremely thin. This method stimulates collagen production all over the face to help rejuvenate the skin and build volume for a more youthful look over time. Another method loved by Amy, co-owner and injector at Coco Med Spa, is preauricular application. Administering Sculptra to this area, located below the temple where the cheek meets the ear, increases the volume in the area and firms the skin creating a lift that gently pulls skin back towards the ear as the skin firms up. This enhances the jawline naturally while providing a youthful, lifted look. Sculptra can also be injected into other areas that have lost volume like the chest, hands, or above the knees.

As a general rule of thumb, this service is not preventative. However, it is a great tool for rejuvenation and successful new collagen growth. Although the results take a little time, they also last much longer than traditional filler. To find out if Sculptra is right for you, contact us to schedule a consultation at Coco Med Spa.
