Minimizing Discomfort in Medical Spa Treatments

Updated: Mar 29, 2021

They say beauty is pain but we could not disagree more. At Coco Med Spa it is our priority to ensure our clients experience the utmost comfort during injectables, thread lifts, and other minimally invasive treatments.

How do we minimize discomfort?

Our service providers have a number of ways to minimize discomfort during procedures.

High anxiety can intensify discomfort. Consultations before each treatment are beneficial in lowering anxiety by explaining treatment steps, answering questions, and placing the client in control of any decision making that is needed for their treatment. This step alone helps tremendously with concerns and reduces the anticipation of discomfort. Another one of the most common ways to reduce discomfort is with numbing cream or nerve block injections, similar to the dentist's office. In cases of clients with higher anxiety, lower pain tolerance, or slightly more invasive procedures, nitrous oxide or “laughing gas” is an excellent option as well. This is sometimes called procedural sedation.

How do these methods work?

Numbing cream is a fast acting method that temporarily inhibits feeling in the applied areas and makes it easier to perform quick injections like botox, fillers, and other similar treatments with little to no discomfort and zero downtime. It works by absorbing into the skin and blocking nerve signals for a short period of time, allowing the procedure to take place pain free. For additional pain relief, nerve block injections are even more effective and can last for a few hours.

Nitrous oxide or “laughing gas” is sometimes also called procedural sedation. This method of conscious sedation allows patients to be temporarily sedated without the risks or recovery time of general anesthesia. This is a gas mixture that is inhaled through a small mask. It often causes a temporary euphoric feeling, while simultaneously assisting with relaxation and pain management.
